The sounds of screams, the harsh clashes of blade and bullets being plunged into flesh terrified Hermione. If it had been happened a few months earlier, she would have embraced the sound and the hope it gave her. The hope of a rebellion, the hope of tides turning in her favour and in her people’s favour consumed her entire heart a long time ago. That hope was now extinguished. It had been done so in a painfully slow and cruel manner until nothing consumed her heart but emptiness.

She lay beneath her wings on the mattress. She was alone. It was in these moments that she drowned herself in the memories and scrambled onto those happy times. They were precious possessions and Hermione would not know what to do if she lost them.

Bang! She heard footsteps. They were hurried. She shrunk. She was scared. It was presumably a researcher who was just around the corner, trying to save or take as much data as he could. The researchers she had seen through her time stuck in a cage had all exclaimed that human experiments were ‘the most astonishing achievement that mankind could have ever achieved’. She disagreed with them. They were all insane but she no longer had the courage to tell them any longer.

The footsteps came closer and instinctively she flinched. She would rather be a symbol to the locals, to her people and be a demonstration to them of the cruelty the invaders had treated them with. She would rather be found by her people than anyone else.

“Hermione,” she heard it loud and clear through all the screams, the cackling sound of fire and weapons clashing as her people fought for their freedom. She recognised that voice. It was his voice. What if it wasn’t? It was definitely his voice. She slowly lifted her wings before standing on the mattress. As she slowly looked up, she was relieved to see his face. She took a quick look around. There was no one else around. It was just him and her. It was just the two of them.

She reached out. She wanted to touch him, to see if he was real. She wanted to make sure that he wasn’t an illusion. What if he was? What if he was the result of one of her hallucinations? She had hallucinated before. Sometimes it was about her people and the locals she used to interact with. Most of the time, however, it was about him and what it would be like if he was here in front of her with his arms around her. She slowly started to retract her arm. If it was a hallucination, she didn’t want it to end. But Draco took her hand and let it caress his face. He was real.

“It’s ok Hermione. I’m gonna get you out of there,” he reassured her as he fiddled with the lock. With a horrendous creek of the metal opening, he stepped in easily. She could almost feel the tears coming.

“I did it, Hermione.” She nodded. Of course he did it. Of course he started the rebellion. Of course he created chaos. Of course he made his father lose favour with the King. Of course he made the tides turn. Of course he was driving the invaders out of the land. If anyone could have done it, it would have been him.

She smiled. He held her hands. “We’re going to okay now,” he whispered softly as he landed a kiss on her lips. Everything was going to okay. Even though they were broken, both equally beyond repair, everything was going to okay. They were going to be okay.
