A A A A

What happens when I read The Great Gatsby.

It had been a month, Nick mused as he let the alcoholic beverage scorch a pathway inside his throat. It’s been a month since his attempts to get everyone who knew Gatsby to attend his funeral. He wasn’t mad at all those other insignificant names that had come up during one of those magnificent parties that Gatsby used to throw. It wasn’t like he had a lot of free time on his hands and a lot of money to waste. He threw the parties to capture the attention of one person and one only.

It was a girl that he knew before he went into the army, Nick smiled wryly as he recalled Jordan’s words about how Gatsby and Daisy actually met. He was sure that there was an affair going on, and while affairs weren’t supposed to be serious, he was sure that theirs were. It was fairly obvious (at least in his eyes) that Gatsby loved her. He loved her with all his heart. He loved to the point where he was willing to risk everything for her. It was simply unfortunate, and Nick felt his heart swell with injustice, because Daisy could never and seemed to never want to do the same.

It left his heart in unease as he kept on thinking about it over and over again. She was the one who knew him best, and the one who he loved the most. He thought that love could conquer all, and he still firmly believed in that statement. Daisy seemed like someone who would stand and fight for something that she loved. She would fight for Gatsby and wouldn’t doubt him when she found out about what he was doing to acquire the enormous wealth that he used to purchase cool cars and tossed into the air freely. In fact, Nick hadn’t doubted him.

But now that he thought about it, Tom had been extremely angry that day. Was it possible…He shook his head. He had seen the two clearly discussing that night and it was obvious to say that they were discussing about moving away. Daisy’s shock at the hotel would have told him so. While Tom was angry, he let Daisy and Gatsby ride together in a car to almost prove a point.

Once again, he found himself hopelessly back at where he started this evening. It had been a month, he mused once more.

(And still, a little voice in his head whispered to him at the injustice that swelled in his heart.

Gatsby's love for Daisy was boundless; Daisy's love for Gatsby wasn't.)

The moon loved the sun so much he died every night to let her breathe.
