Chapter 1

It was a just another boring yet ordinary day. Groans and curses could be heard from the “Ex-Huntington” household.

Mrs. Huntington was in the middle of making breakfast when she saw the clock. It was 7: 30 already. She called out for the two kids but only one responded, her daughter, Quinn.

“Yes, moth—I mean mom?” Both Quinn and her brother were thought how to speak politely, address someone formally and how to be well mannered since they we’re at young age.

“Sweetie, where is your brother?” Cassandra Julie asked the 16 year old girl.

“I think he’s still asleep” Quinn shrugged and Cassandra took a quick look at the clock before ushering her daughter to come get her brother.

Quinn ran up to her Quinton’s room, knocking lightly.

 “Quinton…” She got no response.

The second time she tried still no response was given. She doesn’t want to waste time on her third try, so she muttered a sorry before entering his room.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    Quinton isn’t that typical messy guy. His room was very neat and tidy. If you would come and see it for yourself, you would think he has OCD. No single patch of dust could be found in the area.

“Quinton…” Quinn sighed and moved towards her brother’s bed.

“Wake up” She poked his shoulders, no response was given.

She tried shaking his body, but still he was in deep slumber.

“Fine, then.” She kicked his body and as a result, he fell down from the bed.

“Ouch!” Quinton groaned and sat up, rubbing his sore bottom. “What is wrong with you?” Quinton finally stood up, rubbing his eyes.

“We’re going to be late if you don’t get your ass in the shower right now.” Quinn crossed her arms and Quinton suddenly felt small under his sister’s glare.

Finally he gave in and started heading towards the bathroom, mumbling out a “Yeah, yeah okay.”

Meanwhile, Quinn was smirking, totally liking to be able to use words freely.

After a quick shower, Quinton went to grab something simple to wear. He puts on a plain white t-shirt under his school’s letterman jacket, puts on a clean pair of jeans and took out his sneakers. He messed his blonde hair up before walking down the wooden steps casually, not really bothering to hurry up.

“Quinton!” His sister’s voice could be heard from the living room. He chuckled, not really bothering to walk faster.

“Hurry up!” That was now his mother, a hint of anger could be detected in her voice.

With that, he ran and jumped, skipping some steps as a result. After taking his car keys and bidding his mom goodbye, Quinton and his sister drove off to school.

“So, uhm…” Since their father left, Quinton and his sister was never close again. They would only speak up when necessary or when asked to.

“We’re so awkward” Quinton laughed awkwardly, he turned on the stereo, hoping that he could find a song that would break the awkwardness inside the car.

“Mhm” was all Quinn had said. They spent the rest of the drive in silence. And Quinton blamed his father for this.

It was 8.05 by the time they arrived at school.

Quinn, the good girl, ran as fast as her feet can take her to class. And Quinton, being the lazy one, just decided to walk to class. Not even caring if he was late

Finally, he arrived in front of his first class. It was Chemistry and his teacher was Mr. Henrick. Mr. Henrick is quite popular in school. Well, he was known as the strictest teacher ever hired. And the thought of it just made Quinton smirk. Oh hell he was going to have so much fun with this teacher.

“Open your book to p—Mr. Lucas!” Everyone turned to look at who was at the door.

“Yes sir?” Quinton asked teasingly.

“Why were you late?” He asked with a hint of anger.

“I woke up late” Quinton shrugged before walking to his table which he shared with Julia? Julian? Julie? He totally forgot her name.

The class was suddenly silent. And he knew what he was going to say next.

“Prin—“

“—Cipal’s office. Yeah, yeah I know.”

With a scoff and a smirk directed to Mr. Henrick, he left the class. As Quinton left, he did not realize that a pair of eyes was watching his every move.

Quinton spent the rest of the period in the principal’s office. He was just there, sitting and chewing on gum right in front of the principal’s face. The principal was a relative of Quinton. He was his mother’s younger brother. But no one knows that.

“Quinton, I know that you don’t like the teacher. But just please don’t make him mad again.”

Quinton frowned, well he certainly he doesn’t get it why the school hired him. Mr. Henrick was a pain in the ass. Everybody doesn’t like him and his job is just to get angry at random people.

“Well it’s his problem. He’s really temperamental, not my fault”, Quinton retorted and the principal sighed.

There is nothing that could actually break his stubbornness. The bell rings just as the principal was going to comment. ‘Thank God’ Quinton thought as he stood up, shouldering his bag.

“Bye, Sir.” With that, he left the principal’s office.

It was second period by the time he got out. Second period was math, his worst enemy. And he was late again for the second time of the day.

“Ahh Mr. Lucas, how nice of you to join us” Mrs. Martin was smiling, she was smiling for god’s sake.

Mrs. Martin was the nicest teacher in the whole school and a total opposite of Mr. Henrick. She is just simply very kind. But doesn’t mean she couldn’t be strict.

“Yeah, uhm sure,” Quinton replied before taking a seat on the back, next to the window.

He likes it to be able to see the view. His seats were always beside the window, except in Chemistry class, where a girl, whom he forgot her name, took his seat. But he wasn’t one to actually take it back from her.

Math class went by surprisingly fast. The rest of his class too. It seems like when you’re teacher isn’t Mr. Henrick, everything seems a lot more bearable and not really boring.

As he was leaving the class, there was a tap on his shoulders.

“What?” He turned back to face the person.

It was his best friend, Antonio.

“Oh, hey” Antonio pulled him to the cafeteria, so that they wouldn’t have to squish through the crowd.

The moment they entered the cafeteria, the smell of food invaded their nose. It was heavenly. The canteen served lots of food and it was truly the students’ favorite place, especially those who just had PE. They always have the best food but bad services.

“Guess what?” Quinton really sucked at guessing.

“Man, come on, you know I suck at guessing stuff.”

Antonio chuckled before replying, “Coach made me second in command.”

Antonio beamed at him and Quinton smirked, “That means we’re now officially captain and co-captain.”

They did their thing which was their special handshake before settling down to their normal spot. Of course the cheerleaders went by to sit with them, as usual. Julia, the cheer captain, had her arms linked with Quinton’s, obviously showing off to everyone that he is hers.

There are two problems though, Quinton did not like her and he is not hers. Sure she’s pretty, popular, cheer captain and really hot, but Quinton doesn’t like her at all.

As he was doing his best to ignore her ramblings, he noticed the girl from his Chemistry class, from the corner of his eye.

He decided to excuse himself from the table. Running fast to make sure that Julia isn’t following him. Also to make sure that he did not lose track of his seatmate.

Yes, he decided to call her ‘seatmate’, well he did not know her name. You got a problem with that?

He doesn’t even know why he’s following her at the first place. But after running through a flight of stairs and empty hallways, he finally found her final destination, the rooftop.

He never knew that it was unrestricted, if he knew sooner, he would already claim this place as his own.

As the girl entered, he did not want to follow her inside and ruin the moment. He took a peek at her, watching as the wind blows her hair slowly. She sat on a bench he never knew was there and took out her lunch. He wondered why he didn’t notice this girl before. But her face looks similar to Julia’s.

Are they twins? No it’s not possible, they can’t be twins. They’re too different to be twins. Quinton decided to close the door before running down, heading back.

The rest of his periods left in school weren’t as good as math class. And he wondered why.

Quinton was waiting for Quinn to finish her classes. He stood in front of his car, playing with his phone. He did not realize that Julia was already making herself comfy beside him, looping her arms around his.

“Hey Quinnie” That nickname he hated so much rolled off her tongue

“What?” Quinton was obviously irritated, but he does not want to show it ‘because it’ll totally make her sad and ruins his rep.

“Come over to my place tonight?” She asked seductively and he almost rolled his eyes.

“I can’t, I have to do my homework” That was such a lame lie. In fact, the lamest one Quinton had every made up

“Baby, you can do me instead” Julia bit his earlobe, making him shiver slightly. Untangling his arm from hers, he spoke, “I’m sorry, I can’t come tonight. It’s Mr. Henrick’s assignment.”

Julia pouted and muttered a ‘Fine’ before heading towards her car.

Quinton exhaled in relief. Now he doesn’t have to deal with her all night. Finally Quinn came out and went up to Quinton. Some people used to think that they were dating. Some knew they were siblings and some don’t.

“You waited?” Quinn raised a perfect eyebrow

“Duh!” Quinton said before laughing, ushering her inside the car.

Again awkwardness filled the car. Neither spoke about anything. Well Quinton was sick of this. Not being able to talk to his sister.

“You hungry? Because I am” Quinton asked her

“Yes.”

“….Burgers?” He offered with a smirk

“Drive faster” She smiled before texting their mom

*

They finally came home with smiles on their faces. Instead of going home after getting burgers, they went to an arcade and played for a while before going home.

“We’re home!” They both yelled in unison

“Kids, you’re back…and Quinn what are you holding?” Cassandra Julie raised an eyebrow

She knows what she is holding, but she just can’t believe it.

“It’s a stuffed bear. Quinton won it for me” A genuine smile made it way to her face for the first time since their father left. Quinn had never to touch or wanted a stuffed toy since their father left, cause it reminds her of him. But now in her hands was a stuffed toy.

“Quinton? And you?” Cassandra was flabbergasted.

“Mhm.” The two siblings nodded before bidding their mom goodbye and heading towards their rooms.

“I can’t believe this is happening” Cassandra tear up a bit

Quinton and Quinn had never been this nice to each other. It’s either they fight or they ignore each other. But this was different. They are starting to warm up against each other and she loved it. Her family bond was rebuilding itself, even after that monster left.
