❝Online Exam❞
1. What are your thoughts about our online exam in regards with the following:
content of the exam - The content of the exam was well representative of all the things we have learned in the course. As Mr. Pitagan said, he made a checklist of the topics and made sure that there was no left out topic in the exam. The questions included were also very practical, although there were questions that seemingly popped out of nowhere; making me question if I just missed it during the discussion or it was there just to make the test a little bit harder.
type of questions - The type of questions ranged from essay to multiple choice. There were more essay questions which I really liked because it shows more understanding rather than memorization of facts but it was also because of the essay questions that I took so long.
length of time - The length of time alotted for the exam was just right. I finished almost all of the questions but I wish it were a little longer to allow for review of answers.
conduct of the exam (instructions, location, teacher, etc) - The instructions were clear and it also helped that we were allowed to ask questions so as to clarify some points. It was also helpful that it was conducted in the MITC because if it were a takehome exam I would have been easily distracted and there is also the chance of technical difficulty and then there would be no help.
others - I just wish that the timer was more visible. For most of the time I was taking the exam, I couldn't see the timer so I had no idea how much time I had left. But then again, I guess this is not the fault of Mr. Pitagan but the UVLE's interface in general.
2. How do you compare an online exams with that of the traditional pen-and-paper exams?
With the online exam, it is faster as you are typing and not writing. It is also easier to undo mistakes such as spelling because you don't need to manually erase it. It is easier for teachers to check online exams since some items can be checked through the computer and there are no bad handwritings to deal with. At the same time, there is always the chance that there would be a technical difficulty which I really feared that day. Also online exams can be difficult if you are not familiar with the interface of the platform used.
3. Would you recommend students to take an online exam? Why/Why not?
For students and teachers who are adept in using computers, online exams would be a great alternative because it also lessens the use of paper and it is generally faster to type than to write. It is also easier to see which questions you have answered because sometimes you will skip items in pen-paper exams and then forget about it.
4. Would you conduct an online exam in your class? Why/Why not?
Most probably not because I will be teaching in early grades. It will not be appropriate to the skills which I would need to teach. Younger children need to develop fine motor skills aside from handling the mouse and keyboard. But I were to teach in college then maybe. I still believe in the old pen-and-paper method most.
5. Other reflections you may have.
I was really worried about the online exam. I feared that the computer would suddenly crash or something. I tool an online exam before and it wasn't really a pleasant experience. Mainly because in that online exam, you can not go back to an item. You have to answer it or pass in order to move on to the next question. Also, it wasn't conducted in the classroom at classhours so I had to deal with slow connection and a running clock. This online exam in EdTech was definitely ten times better in almost every aspect. It was closer to the pen-and-paper exam than cheap online quizes.
