My Mission

[At home, Fallen World]

 

My name is Watanabe Daisuke. That’s the only thing about myself that I remember. I had somehow lost all my memories. And I'm determined to regain my memories back, no matter what it takes.

 

I've been here for approximately a century. It sucks living in the Fallen World. Time passes by extremely slow and it’s also boring in this world. There are even fallen angels who are abused so badly everyday for petty reasons. It’s like this world was created just to torture us.

 

Even though I’ve been here for a century, I barely know anything about this world. Like how does it work? Why can’t anyone remember anything from their past life? Why can't we leave this place whenever we want?

 

And of course, why am I here in the first place?

 

I don’t even know. I woke up one day and found myself on the ground, lying on my back and facing up at the dark sky right outside the house I was assigned to live in. Oh and apparently the sky is always dark - there is no sun here to bathe this sad, dark world in light.

 

I only found out that I was a fallen angel because this other fallen angel, Sakuragi Kanon, who is actually my next door neighbor, told me.

 

She said that I ended up here because I had killed people or did something horrible back when I was a human and that no one can ever leave this place unless the Fallen Angel King you go on a mission given and successfully complete it.

 

Rumors say that you can even become human again if you complete a mission.

 

Still, were my actions really so bad that I have to be forced to spend all eternity in this world unless I complete some mission..?

 

Anyways, the Fallen World is just like the human world - we live in houses, work, meet others, and eat. The only differences of these two worlds are the sky and its actual inhabitants.

 

The inhabitants of this world are the fallen angels, who are mainly cruel, violent, and backstabbing so it’s extremely hard to find a genuine friend.

 

Plus, this world is patrolled by superior fallen angels(they have powers) who probably “earned” their right to abuse us at any place, and time and we can’t do anything about it because we are powerless. Inferior. Plus we can’t die in this world.

 

We are only here to suffer and be the source of their entertainment as a way to “repent” our wrongdoings...

 

I slung my backpack over my shoulder, which is packed with a credit card, a cell phone, a car and house key, and 12 bottles filled with some kind of black liquid.

 

All I know is that I’m supposed to drink a bottle of that black liquid once a month. One bottle right when I get to the Human World, another bottle the next month on the exact same day, and so on. Once I run out, I should be done with my mission or just call for more. Since it shouldn’t take that long to kill a human girl, I’ll probably be done with this mission by the end of the first month.

 

I was told that if I don’t drink this black liquid on the exact same day of every month, I’ll die. No one knows what happens to fallen angels that die in the Human World and no one would be stupid enough to try.

 

Also, I have to send a monthly report about my progress back to the Fallen Angel King.

 

Yes! Now I'm all set and ready to go. Just so you know, I actually got assigned a mission! I finally get to leave this blasted place for the first time ever since I got here thanks to that mission and go to the Human World - even if it’s only just for a while.

 

I walked out of my house and locked the door.

 

“Daisuke!” a girl called out.

 

“Huh? Oh, hi Kanon!” I called back.

 

Kanon runs up to me and gives me a big bear hug.

 

“Are you leaving now?” she asked.

 

“Yeah.” I said.

 

“I’m going to miss you.. please come back as soon as possible..” she whispered softly.

 

“I’ll miss you too and don’t worry, I’ll be back before you know it! I’ll even bring back some souvenirs!”

 

“You better! And I’m going to be so lonely here without you.” Kanon pouted.

 

“Maybe you can make a new friend here while I’m gone.”

 

“Ugh. No. I refuse to trust anyone else in this place besides you. You’re also the only friend I’ll ever need.”

 

Kanon gives me a peck on the cheek. “Well, good luck Daisuke.. stay safe.”

 

“Okay, well, I’ll be off now.”

 

We part without saying goodbye because we both know that I’ll be back soon.
