A A A A

Waves crashed against the side of the cliff, eroding the ancient rocks and bringing it to the depths of the raging sea. A woman sat at the fragile edge, gazing at the array of colors that littered the sky as the sun sunk into the horizon.

“A beautiful sight…” the woman whispered, her voice hoarse from crying. “If only you were here with me to see it.”

She stretched her hand out, desperately trying to grasp onto the something in the clear sky. Yet there was nothing but air that escaped her frail

hands. Giving up on reaching for what she thought was there, she settled on clutching her chest as dreadful sobs rose to her throat.

“Why? You broke your promise!” she yelled, letting tears roll down her sunken cheeks. “You said you’d be here, by my side! Forever!”

The wind caressed her face gently, as if begging her to stop crying.

“Forever…” she whispered. She looked down into the icy water, tempted to fall into it.

Can we really be together forever? Up there?

A gale suddenly threw her backwards, and away from the edge of the cliff.

She looked up into the darkened sky that was now littered with stars instead of the warm colors of the sunset. “Was that you?” she said, her eyes wide and red. Another gentle wind caressed her trembling frame, giving off a comforting feeling.

“Hey! Are you okay?” a voice in the distance suddenly yelled. A young man was running towards her, for some odd reason.

He stopped in front of her, kneeling down while looking at her with worried eyes. Why in the world would he look at her like that…?

“I saw you near the edge… I thought you were going to jump in, but this gust of wind blew you backwards. Are you truly okay?” he said.

The woman stood up, a smile gracing her lips for the first time in a month. “I’m fine. At least, now I am.”

Looking up at the starry sky and full moon, she smiled brightly, starting to regret that she ever thought jumping into a death pit. He wants me to live, huh?

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” the man said, gazing at the night sky as well. “just like you.”

Both laughing, the two of them went home together, finding each other to be pleasant company.

Before entering the home the woman once shared with someone she loved and cared for immensely, she took one last look at the sky with a bittersweet expression.

This is goodbye, my dear. No matter what, I will never forget you…

In a pure white pavilion, there revealed a man, looking over a lake that surrounded the small building. He stared at the still, clear lake with a fond expression.

I want you to live on. For my sake.

Walking onto the bridge that led to Paradise, he took one last look at the lake which allowed him to view the world beneath them.

I will always love you, my darling.

Anggie  on says about chapter 1:
I thought it would be angsty, but in the end it turned out sweet. Lovely :)
