“There is no way in hell that he’s pairing up with you!”

“He’s pairing up with me!”

“No, he’s pairing up with me!”

Well, that had been unexpected… Onyx orbs met crimson from across the room and the crimson eyed male smiled knowingly while the onyx eyed male wanted to let his forehead meet the table. How they had gotten to this situation was rather simple.

It was the first day to the eight years they would be spending in the school for the humans. Of course, being a magic wielder, Uchiha Sasuke had already been at the school the day before with the other magic users. However, today was the first day for the humans who would be attending the school as well and that meant that the magic users would have to find a partner that very day. Humans were to choose a partner that would help them throughout training. Magic users were to fight demons or things with evil intent and they had no choice but to do their job. Humans that attended Patronus Academy were to not only study like regular students, but they had to partner with a magic user and help them. It ended up being like a master and slave sort of thing, only they were equals and simply bonded by a blood contract.

Humans could call upon their partner at any time and they would be summoned to their side. It was something that some magic users were certainly not fond of. Uchiha Sasuke and his best friend Orihara Izaya were two of the few magic users who were not happy about having to bond with a human. They had nothing against humans, but due to the fame of both of their families, it was suicide trying to find a partner. Everyone wanted to partner up with the most powerful magic users, but Izaya and Sasuke didn’t want to have that happen.

Magic was something the duo enjoyed to do for fun and perfect it. They never used it unless it was for games that they played with each other or training. It was rather fun, but once you entered school for magic, the fun seemed to cease. You would be stuck choosing a partner who would abuse the contract and it would get out of hand. As helpful as the whole partner thing seemed to the teachers, to Izaya and Sasuke, it was suicide.

The second day of class, they had sat in the back next to each other as usual. It was somewhat fun to attend school. Sasuke and Izaya enjoyed their classes since they were the smartest kids in class, so school was fun for them since they understood and it was a breeze. They were the best in their class skill wise as well, so school was sincerely fun for the two, though they had only been in school for a day.

Sitting in the back was always fun since they could raise their hands and answer all the questions and people wouldn’t bother looking at them since they were in the back. When classes merged, though, they would be stuck sitting next to their partners in their assigned seats and neither of the two were happy about that either. This was how the day started, the two sitting next to each other, passing notes in between themselves.

‘It sucks that we won’t be sitting next to each other anymore…
-Izaya’

‘Hey, if we’re lucky, the teacher will keep us next to each other or somewhat close.
--Sasuke’

‘Yeah, if we’re lucky. But what kind of teacher keeps her two smartest students together?
-Izaya’

‘Mr. Haku is a guy, Izaya—but I get what you mean. Let’s hope he won’t put us too far from each other.
--Sasuke’

‘It sucks that all we can do is hope.
-Izaya’

‘Yeah, it does…
--Sasuke’

Their note passing was forced to stop there as a knock on the door brought silence to the classroom, not that anyone was talking, though, the rustling of papers stopped. The door opened and Izaya’s eyes narrowed. “They’re here…” he mumbled and in filed a line of humans, all looking around in awe as their eyes landed on the magic users, all situated at their desks. It seemed like everyone was analyzing each other, though the duo in the back were completely uninterested to the situation. They were packing up their stuff, getting ready to leave since once people found their partners, classes were out for the day.

“Everyone, please go find your partners and try to get to know them throughout the rest of the day, alright?” Haku said sweetly from the front of the classroom and that was when all hell seemed to break loose. Girls and boys rushed to other people, all asking if the person wanted to be their partner. That was when the duo stood from their seats, slinging their bags over their shoulders and heading towards the door with all intents on getting out of the classroom before they got noticed.

“Hey, isn’t that the Uchiha and the Orihara?” One of the humans called and they had barely made it past their desks. The two looked at each other before they bowed their heads, beginning to walk quickly to the door. Sasuke got held up not two steps from where he had been before and Izaya had managed to make it to the other side of the room before he was caught up as well.

“Sasuke!” Izaya shouted from the other side of the room and the male nodded his head a bit before they snapped their fingers, disappearing from sight. Clutching onto the wood of the ceiling, Sasuke looked over at Izaya who was struggling to not laugh at their situation. Bat like wings protruded from Izaya’s shoulder blades and he flapped his wings slightly, the skin catching the air and propelling him up a bit more so that he could get a steadier grip on the ceiling. Sasuke’s own wings flapped slightly, though they appeared as eagle wings rather than bat wings.

“How do you suggest we get out of here?” Sasuke asked as his wings slowly folded and disappeared altogether in a small burst of red sparks. Izaya’s wings did the same, disappearing in a small burst of purple sparks instead of red.

“Well,” Izaya started as he grabbed the wood posts, swinging his leg up and pushing his body up onto it, straddling the piece of wood, Sasuke mimicking the actions, “we get out of this situation by leaving through there,” Izaya finished, pointing a slender finger and the circle window on the wall at the very top. Izaya’s lips wore a warm smile and Sasuke wanted to slap the male for his stupidity.

“We won’t fit. It’s too small.”

Izaya looked at the window once more before pouting as he realized that Sasuke was indeed right. Giggling a bit, Izaya shrugged his shoulders slightly, adjusting the strap of his bag on his shoulder. “I guess we just have to wait till it’s done, then,” Izaya stated, crimson eyes flashing with a mixture of amusement and disappointment since if their luck ran out, they would be stuck having to find a partner and it wasn’t exactly the best thing in their situation. Sasuke nodded his head a bit, keeping a firm grip on the wood even though he was seated firmly on it.

Time went by quickly and after an hour, the whole room was empty except for two blonde males who were situated next to each other at a table, both looking extremely bored. “I thought you said there was an exact number,” One of them drawled, taking out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket and lighting one up with a lighter he also had in his pocket. He wore sunglasses and simple black jeans, a white t-shirt on top and he wore a semi-bored, semi-pissed expression.

“There should have been. I don’t know where the last two went…” Haku answered, pulling his long brown hair back into a bun at the top of his head as he looked through his student manual and the sheet of partners, trying to figure out who didn’t have a partner.

The second blonde kicked his feet up onto the desk, slouching in his chair and letting his head roll back, eyes closed. “Well, that sucks. I really was looking forward to hanging out with someone today…” the blonde laughed, a grin appearing on his lips. He had three whisker markers on each tan cheek and was wearing an obnoxious orange t-shirt and black jeans as well. The male’s eyes opened and clear blue eyes met onyx orbs and the male nearly fell out of his seat.

“Oh no…”

“I found them!” The blonde exclaimed and the male smoking blinked behind his sunglasses, taking off the shades and hooking them in the neck of his shirt before dropping his cigarette into a small white envelope he had in his pocket. The blue eyed blonde pointed up to the ceiling and the male who had been smoking before looked up at the ceiling, amber orbs meeting crimson.

“Can you come down here?” Haku asked, his attention now on the two males sitting quietly on the wood of the ceiling. Sasuke and Izaya exchanged looks and were apparently taking too long for the liking of one particular blonde.

One second the duo had been silently contemplating whether to go down or to make a run for it, and the next Izaya had a desk meeting his face. The crimson eyed male tumbled off of the wooden rest upon the impact and Sasuke watched with wide eyes as his best friend fell to the floor, only to be caught by the same blonde who had launched the desk at him.

“Sh-Shizuo, don’t you think that was a bit too hard?” The other blonde asked and Shizuo looked at the male he currently held in is arms that looked a bit dizzy, but otherwise unharmed.

“No, he’s alright,” Shizuo responded simply and Naruto looked where the desk had fallen into other desks, the jumble of tables making quite a sight. “You get down here too!” The male yelled and the raven haired male jumped down from the post, landing on a desk neatly and he looked over at his friend.

“Sasuke, I don’t have a grandma, right?” Izaya drawled with a giggle as he hopped out of Shizuo’s hold and stumbled to Sasuke, holding his head with one hand.

“I believe she died in a shooting,” Sasuke responded simply with a small nod of his head. Izaya blinked before nodding his head as well, mumbling a soft ‘you’re right’ with a smile. He perched himself on the desk next to Sasuke before the two magic users faced the two humans.

“Orihara Izaya and Uchiha Sasuke,” Haku motioned to the two students, pointing to the correct one for each name, “are the two smartest students in our class. I was surprised when I didn’t receive their names on the partner list, but I completely forgot those were the two left since I expected them to be gone first.” Haku looked at the two magic wielders evenly. “May I ask why you guys hid?”

“Izaya, you can take this one…” Sasuke looked over at his friend who looked at him with a small pout before he spoke.

“Well,” a smirk crawled onto Izaya’s lips and Sasuke looked at his friend warningly, though the male paid no heed, “the thought of someone taking my dear Sasuke away when he belongs solely to me, his whines, his pleas, his cries during the night when we do sensuous things together.”

“Iza—”

“The mere thought of someone else being allowed to see such wonders completely infuriated me and I suggested we hide so that only we may be able to explore each other’s bodies to the upmost of our pleasure, our cries muffled by our—”

A fist collided with the top of Izaya’s head and the magic user was cut off mid-rant, releasing a whine of pain as he held his head with both hands.

“Pay no mind to his antics… We hid because we didn’t want to be selected,” Sasuke stated simply, looking at his friend. “There were no ulterior motives and clarify what this imbecile was blabbering on about, I would like to say that it is not true whatsoever.”

Haku looked at the two, face burning red and he nodded his head shakily. “Ch-choose,” he managed out before he promptly fainted in embarrassment. The blue eyed blonde burst out into laughter, arms wrapping around his stomach and Shizuo cracked a smile at the two magic wielders who sat there, one whining over how his head hurt and the other fuming in anger.

“Naruto, I think these two are quite the riot,” Shizuo mused and Naruto barked out another laugh, nodding his head in agreement, slowly calming down from his fit of laughter. Wiping his eyes he walked over to Shizuo before pulling the male a few feet away to discuss who they wanted to choose.

“I like the raven. What was his name again?”

“Sasuke?”

“Yeah, that one,” Naruto chimed softly with a smile.

“I like the other one. Izaya was his name. He seems pretty simple to take care of,” Shizuo said softly and Naruto nodded his head a bit.

The two humans walked back to the magic wielders who were talking quietly to each other about something totally not related to the situation at hand if the mathematical equation suspended in the air was anything to go by, the numbers written in flames. Izaya noticed the two blondes approaching and he waved his hand, the equation turning to ashes and flittering away till it disappeared.

“Our decision is that Sasuke goes with Naruto.”

“And Izaya goes with Shizuo.”

I’m stuck with a brute…

I’m stuck with a hyperactive blonde…

The two looked at each other before sighing softly in resignation since they couldn’t do anything about the situation. That was just about it and they were satisfied somewhat with the situation. It was better than they had expected since the two male’s before them didn’t seem to care all too much about their power, which made them both happier with the outcome.

“Alright, let’s go, dobe,” Sasuke said as he stood up, tossing a piece of paper to Izaya as he walked to the door.

“Hey, don’t call me that, teme!” Naruto yelled as he walked out after Sasuke who shoved his hands in his pockets with a soft ‘hn’ of disinterest.

Izaya looked at the piece of paper and scrawled onto it in perfect handwriting, as to be expected from an Uchiha, was a small message.

‘Text me if you can’t handle Shizuo. I’ll do the same if fishcake gets on my nerves.
--Sasuke’

A smile appeared on Izaya’s lips and he let the note go up in flames, the ash landing silently on the floor. Hopping off of the desk, Izaya walked over to Shizuo who stood there, typing away at his phone in boredom. “Let’s go, Shizu-chan,” Izaya called, placing a peck on the blonde’s cheek before skipping out of the room, leaving a dumbfounded blonde in the room before a loud yell of his name caused the crimson eyed magic user to giggle.

“Don’t do that, flea!” Shizuo muttered as he pocketed his cell phone, walking out of the classroom as well, a frown on his face, leaving the passed out teacher to be somebody else’s problem.
