The City of Hope

Chapter 1

The sun was shinning brightly today. The reflection of the yellow specks shined through the walls of the white room. With the windows opened. Sounds of rustling wind breezed through the hot mid summer day.

Inside the bedroom lie an auburned hair girl who looked like she has not had any speck of sleep the past few days. She twisted back and forth on her bed as the uncomfortable bright light shown on her pale face.

It was a typical day for MaiLi. She wakes up everyday and does the same routine she has been doing for the past 10 years of her life.

Since her mother's death when she was 12 her father had left her in the care for herself and gone to venture where ever he had and left her to fend.

The shabby neighborhood she had lived in since young wasn't bad. It was comfortable enough for her to live in and she's lived here since young.

No need to move. Since everything was in its place. Where she wanted it to be. Her life hadn't been bad. It wasn't good, but of course it could be worse.

The city was a nice place for the most part. Until you step beyond the fences and into forbidden lands. No one has dared to do that since the time this place was founded.

It wasn't known what was out there, but to the people of this city for whatever the councils and adults have been telling them since young. It wasn't good.

Secrets were lied out there. Ones that no one could ever imagine beyond belief. She was curious like others here. MaiLi had never been scared of anything in her entire life.

Why would she? She goes on with her life each day. Lived it like she has and goes home. Hopeing that one day things would somehow magically change around here and people would liven up.

And the councils as everyone had called them would be banished and gone forever. Never to return. All was said and done no one would dare go against them.

They were ruthless dictators who took over at the end of the last century and made this city into something that was horrible, drench and controlled.

It was like the citizens were their pets. Ones to be played with. Ones to be messed with. And ones that could easily be thrown away and replaced as if their lives were not of importance.

But everyone had hope. That one day the secret prophecy would be found and the city will return to its old glory it once was one hundred years ago.

Thats why amongst the people it has always been called The City Of Hope. Since Hope was the only thing that these citizens could have.

And it was the only thing that let them live on day by day.
