A A A A

   When she was younger, having hopes and dreams were simple choices.  She could choose to hope, choose to dream, and choose to do anything she wanted to do.  Now, hoping and dreaming, those were musts.  She had to do those musts in order to keep herself sane.  It was the end of the world and she had hoped that she wouldn't end up like the bodies around her.  Dead and decayed, unable to hope or dream anymore.  She didn’t want to end up like that without fulfilling anything she hoped or dreamed about.

   She didn’t know what time it was, what day it was, or even where she was.  She just simply existed on this planet.  This nearly dead planet called Earth.  The one planet that some time ago, was just bustling with life.  Now, there’s nothing.  If one were to describe the sky, they would compare it to molten lava, being unable to see anything but red.  If one were to describe the ground, they would say it was nearly unrecognizable from what it used to be.  The ground was littered with dead bodies and plants were wilted from lack of water and sunlight.

   Bright and alive.  Some time ago, those words may have been what one would have described the Earth with.  Cold and dead.  Now, those words are all that can be used to describe the very planet that used to bustle with life.  The girl watched for any sign of someone else every day, but no luck, no one’s been found.  Everyone is dead, and the girl feels like she will be dead soon as well.
                                                                                                  ~~~~~~
   It was her time.  Funny how she could just sense it already, isn’t it?  Well now, there she was, just sitting in a chair in an empty house she found.  Just watching the clock, waiting to die, the only sound in her ears being her own breath and the lone clock on the wall across from her. Tick tock, tick tock.  As she sat, she flipped through the 23 years of memories she had gathered.  The friendships, the joy, the sadness, the anger, the frustration, and the depression.  Tick tock, tick tock.  She remembered all the hopes and dreams she experienced and one made her stop what she was doing for a moment.  It was the hope that she would be able to die with a smile on her face.  So as her heartbeat slowed, she put a genuine smile on her face and let death take hold of her.  It was the year 3037, and life ceased to exist on Earth that year. Tick tock, tick tock.  Your time is up.
A/N: Sorry this is so short, I can't seem to write things that are over 500 words that easily. This is my first finished story on this site so yay I guess XD And sorry I don't have the first chapter of my other story up yet, that should be done by the 25th though~
This story was awesome! :D
I agree with Pandas, this made me ask questions like how everyone ended up dead, her cause of death, how the world ended and stuff.
This was done well!
The plot about the end of the world is something I don't read often.
It also makes me ask questions: Why is she the only one alive? How did the other's die? What did she die of? (Hunger or dehydration, I suppose?) But everything was placed well!
Great job!
