Not-So-Normal Day at School

“ Wh-what ….Where am I ? Am I dead ? Is this the other world ? No , no it doesn’t seem that way …. what happened ?”  Kevin slowly opening his eyes , the lights above him still shining bright . Everything was normal , no feeling or sensation of the suffocation they felt just before .

 

“ Wha …. ? Where am I … why am I lying down . Ugh , wait … why’s Zack and Michael here too . Oh my god this is confusing .” the teenager slowly tries to at least get into a sitting position . All three of the friends were lying down on the ground . Kevin felt like almost all of his energy has been drained , but even a bit of energy to at least move is good enough for him . He felt dazed , but okay . He slowly crawled to his two other friends , who are apparently still unconscious . He put an arm on Michael and started shaking his body , trying to wake him up .

 

“ Mikey , mikey … can you hear me ? Wake up bro we gotta get outta here .” he said with a tired voice as his energy doesn’t allow him to speak quicker and louder . He tried slapping Michael on the face and eventually , Michael opened his eyes . He too looked dumbfounded and had no idea what the fuck just and is happening . He didn’t open his mouth for a while . He looked around and he looks like a man who just woke up at a different place from where he slept . He ran his palms and finger across his body, trying to confirm whether this is the other world or the actual world . Then he turned his head to talk to Kevin .

 

“ What in the world just freaking happened . I am sure something crazy happened just now . What was it , tell me . I’m so confused right now . Where the fuck are we .” Michael asked his friend .

 

“ I have no idea , I feel just as confused as you are . But that doesn’t really matter as of now , we can figure it out later . Right now we have to get our asses outta this place . Go get Zack .” he replied . He seemed to recover a bit from the unenergized state he was in . He started to feel his organs and blood running back to normal again , although at a slightly lower pace .

 

Zack woke up from the ground and didn’t say a single thing . He managed to snap out of his tipsy state thanks to Michael and got up to his feet . The three then adjusted their clothes and tried to refresh themselves in any way they could . Zack tied his untied sneakers , completely oblivious of the fact that that is the starting point to the chain of events they just went through .

 

“ Leggo .” Kevin stated , leading the way to the exit of the lair . They completely ignored everything in the lair , which would’ve helped them in remembering what happened to them and just head straight for the exit . Everything looked normal and not a single sign of destruction in the lair was shown . Seems like everything happened only within the barrier . The trio got to the top of the stairs and squeezed their way out of the lair through the narrow opening , Kevin being the last one to get out .

 

The sky was yellowish , obviously signalling that it’s almost dusk . They got to the lair at around 2pm , which means they spent about 6 hours at the lair , roughly 5 hours 30 minutes unconscious . The boys took a deep breath of the fresher natural air outside the lair , feeling relieved that they are still alive . They were just about to leave , when Zack points out something .

 

“ What is this place . How the fuck did we get down there .” Zack said . Not a single one of them can remember how they got there , who owns the place or what happened down there . They were too busy being confused and forgot to close off the entrance .

 

“ Alright , we better get home right away . How the fuck we got here , I have no idea” Michael said .

They agreed and just walked off to the street , leaving the large , secluded and messy field . They walked together for like 2km because all their houses are not around the place the lair was at . About 30 minutes later they reached a four-way intersection where each road leads one of the guys to their house .

 

“ Well then , I’ll be going now . See ya tomorrow .” Michael said as he walks off to the left road . The three then part ways , heading towards their respective homes .

 

Kevin’s house

 

He arrived at the driveway and rang the house bell . He felt really tired . His big brother , John was there to answer the door .

 

“ You’re late . Where were you .” John said with a slightly pissed off face . Kevin didn’t really bother to reply and ignored John and head for the stairs .

“ Hey ! I was worried about you , tell me . Where were you to be this late home ! You’re just lucky mom and dad are not here right now . If they were you’d be dead !” John said with a high voice .

“ The group assignment was a pain in the ass okay ? Shit ton of stuff to do . I would’ve been early if I didn’t take breaks every hour but I’m not a goddamn robot . You can tell from my face right ?” Kevin replied with an exhausted and low voice . He didn’t had the energy to express his annoyance towards his brother .

“ Fine . Get cleaned up and rest . You look beaten up” John replied , accepting Kevin’s fake excuse . John really cares for Kevin and he would worry every time he gets home late like he was a parent with his own children . Kevin is sometimes annoyed at that but he knows that it’s for his own well-being to have a responsible and caring sibling watching and worrying over him if anything suspicious happens .

 

Kevin didn’t reply and just walked up the stairs . He throws his bag onto the bed like he usually does and sat on the edge . He cupped both of his hands around his forehead and let out a big sigh of relief that he went through the crazy and weird day alive and safely got home . He , again , tries as hard as he could to clearly remember the chain of events that happened . He couldn’t come up with a 100% sure and solid conclusion . He was completely clueless how he and his friends end up down that place he , currently , doesn’t know .

 

‘ I should let this off my mind for now , I’ll end up blowing my brains out . Now all I need is some recuperation and rest’  he thought as he head to the bathroom to wash his face . He took his bathe and got in to more comfier clothing . ‘ There , much much better and fresher’ he said to himself . It was 8.00 p.m. , and he’s already tired as hell eventhough he took a bathe to feel more energized , but it did the exact opposite . Because of the freshness , he felt more lazy and decided to just go to bed already . And the really eventful day ended .

 

The following day

 

 Zack , Michael and Kevin greeted each other at the entrance . They chatted as they usually do and walked together to begin their routine preparations for first period . When they were done collecting their books from their locker , they headed to their class .

 

As they were heading to the class , a sight of a large crowd was spotted at the hallway directly in front of their class . Some buffed guys were in the middle of the crowd while the other students gathered around them , noticeably looking entertained .

 

“ The heck is goin on there ?” Michael curiously said as he approaches the group . Kevin and Zack followed along . When they managed to squeeze through the small crowd and got a view of what’s going on , they were shocked . Riley was in the middle of getting mocked and teased really hard by the big guys . The trio thought that maybe it happened because he’s a new student , and that those big shitheads wanna “warn” them that they are the “big boys” of the school and that he wouldn’t wanna mess with them . Kevin thought about jumping in and putting a stop to it , but he had doubts . Then he thinks again , and he realizes that if he helps Riley out , maybe Riley could finally start make him as a friend  . He then decided to jump in and intervene . Michael and Zack decided they’d just stay back as they fear they might get beaten up by the 5-6 man group .

 

“ Hey hey come on cut the crap !! ” he said as he steps in between Riley and two of the guys . He pushed Riley and the two away a bit from each other. The crowd then started to let out boo’s to Kevin .

 

“ Don’t get in the way Sterling ! This fucker ignored us and we need to teach em a lesson that he shouldn’t ignore THE GANG !” one of the guys said , addressing Kevin by his surname . The gang isn’t exactly a gang that can do much , they’re all just big muscled immatured fuckers who are all just talks . But the students in the school won’t take the risk as they , as people always do , judge them by their exterior characteristics .

 

“ Just stop alright . He’s new to this school and he shouldn’t spend the 3^rd day here getting humiliated . Give him a chance to get used to this place himself !! He doesn’t need you warning him and all that bullshit ! YOU CAN’T DO MUCH SHIT ANYWAY , RIGHT ?! Heh  ” Kevin bravely replied .

 

“What the fuck you say !? Oh , warning ! We have a badass over here ! OOOO I’m so scarreeeddd !! Somebody call the cops !! ” one of the guys replied in a really annoying sarcastic way . The crowd then reacted with laughs and teases . “ You wanna go , huh ? BRING IT ! Perfect time to demonstrate our might to that Riley boy .” the dude replied as he taunts Kevin , then getting into his fighting stance .

 

“ Come on man . I don’t wanna hurt you . I just want you to leave him alone .” Kevin stated , as he takes a few steps back to try and avoid any unnecessary conflict .

 

“ You’re being a pussy . COME ON ! TAKE THIS FIGHT LIKE A MAN ! YOU AIN’T A SCAREDY CAT ARE YA ?! HUH ?!” he replied . This group really loves to pick fights like these with anyone that pisses them off . They are from the oldest badge of students from the high school and are attention-seeking idiots . As said , they are all just talks and doesn’t really show that much strength . They pick fights with weak , nerdy people just so that they turn out the superior . Right now , they thought Kevin is just one of the many weak people at the school , but they don’t know what’s coming for them if this fight is gonna go on . They didn’t know that Kevin is a well-skilled fighter and can deal great damage to anyone with his moves . He’s not a professional fighter but his moves are still good and can be powerful if done right . 

 

Kevin moves on to escort Riley to the class , accompanied by the boo’s of the small crowd . Riley made it in , and just as Kevin was about to enter the class , one of the guys pulled him by the collar of his chequered shirt . It was a really strong pull . The guy dragged him back to the crowd and the group cornered him .

 

“ Let’s get this on , you little punk !” they taunted .

 

“ Well , I guess I have no other choice .” Kevin said as he gave a scary glare . Without hesitating , one of the guys attempted to attack Kevin with a punch from the back , but Kevin quickly reacts and with his skilled accurate timing , he cleanly catches the fist with one arm . He then dragged the guy’s body down using the arm , and lined up his right knee with the guy’s head , and rams his knee as hard as he could in the guy’s face . That move dealt painful damage and the guy seemed like passing out . Then Kevin proceeds to swipe both of his legs with his right leg and that surely knocked him out for now . Another fist came to his direction and he effortlessly dodged it by moving to the left . The guy then tried throwing more punches to Kevin but Kevin dodged all of them with ease , even directing the punches to another direction with his accurate arm movements . Kevin wasn’t panicking which was evident as he showed a calm and composed body . He then managed to find an opening in one of the attempted punches and while at the same time he’s dodging , he swung his right arm and landed a really hard blow to the guy’s lower left jaw . That move definitely had an effective impact . The guy seemed stunned and he stumbled around the place for a bit , probably trying to regain the focus he lost from the strong punch . Moments later he was done regaining his focus and barely seemed ready to continue . Just as he was lifting his head to face Kevin , Kevin lands two straight punches directly in the face . The two punches were so quick it left the guy with absolutely no time to react . That throwed him back and he drops to the ground , breathing hard .

 

Kevin was ready to defend himself against more attacks , but it seems like the group have seen enough and decided that they should never fuck with Kevin again . Kevin was surprised that this so called “gang” refuse to do more after seeing such little action ( according to Kevin’s standards ) . Kevin then looked back at the two people he just owned and he had a worried expression on his face . He really didn’t want to hurt anyone but he eventually was left with no choice but to do so . He wanted to avoid using strong moves but he unconsciously did . He can’t help but worry that he might get in trouble for heavily injuring the two people eventhough they deserve it . The gang then left along with their two injured guys and the crowd began to dismiss .

 

“ You were the bomb man ! You gave those fuckers the lesson they deserved ! You’re moves were incredible !” Michael said as he and Zack approached Kevin .

 

“Y-yeah ….” he nervously replied .

 

“Hey why are you all nervous ?” Zack questioned .

 

“ Nothing it’s just …. I heavily damaged those two , and I fear I might get in trouble for that .” he explains .

 

“ Come on , relax . Even the teachers couldn’t teach them a lesson , and you managed to do just that ! They’ll probably thank you for it .” Michael stated . Kevin just replied with a nod and an aggreing expression . Luckily for them , not a single teacher saw or heard the fight . Even though it’ still 20 minutes from first period , they expected at least one teacher to use the hallway they were at .  If someone in charge saw the fight , Kevin would’ve been blamed and he would’ve been in trouble .

 

They went into the class and sat down at their places , now 10 minutes away from first period . Riley , as expected , didn’t show any type of reaction to the people walking in . Michael seemed pissed and decided to have a word with him .

 

“ Hey , that guy right there saved your ass out there . At least thank him !” he said in dissatisfaction . Riley did direct his eyes to Michael while he was talking , but he didn’t give a reply . That pissed off Michael even more . Just as Michael was about to show him a lesson , Kevin stopped him and told him to cut it out . Kevin absolutely doesn’t want another unnecesarry argument to break out . Michael gave in and went back to his place . Kevin told Michael he absolutely didn’t mind if Riley didn’t thank him .

 

The school day then starts as usual and everything was as always until recesss .

 

The school canteen was crowded , everyone was lining up to collect their food to fill up their empty and demanding rumbling stomachs . This time the trio didn’t go to eat together . Zack went and spent the recess together with his girlfiend , Tracy , while Michael went to join his other badge of friends from the other classes . Kevin went on alone . He , unlike the other two , didn’t have a girlfriend despite his equally immense popularity among the students . Kevin surely is good-looking and has all the qualities girls dream of in a boyfriend . Lots of the girls have tried hooking up with him , but he never gave an exact reaction to them . He felt like he’s never gonna do well in a relationship , although all of his friends thought he’s perfectly fine .

 

He joined the huge crowd and got his tray of food and sat down at a table at the end of the canteen . Kevin doesn’t eat much . Everyday his tray would only be filled as far as an appetizer of mushroom soup and a small-sized sandwiched hotdog with mustard and mayonnaise . As long as it can get rid of his hunger , it’s good enough for him .

 

He picks up his spoon and stirs the mushroom soup around a bit , to cool it down . Then suddenly , he notices something very unusual . The soup , as it was stirred by the metal spoon , seemed like it was boiling . Bubbles were formed on the surface and the vapours of smoke got larger and thicker than it was before . Kevin was shocked and immediately took out the spoon from the bowl . Just as he was trying to see what’s wrong , the boiling stopped . He thought that maybe it’s just a crazy vision he has and puts the spoon back in , and right away the boiling started again . Kevin was totally freaked out . He has never seen such a weird sight .

 

“ What the heck is wrong with the soup . It’s boiling hard . How am I suppose to put this in my mouth . It’ll burn the fuck out of my lips .” he thought . Then he looked around himself , just to see if anyone saw what he saw . It seemed like everyone didn’t and they are too busy chatting with their friends , but one guy . The guy looked directly at Kevin’s table . Kevin noticed him , and the guy was Riley . They locked eyes with each other . Riley , for the first time ever , gave a human-like expression , a stunned expression . Kevin just looked on at the face awkwardly . After about 10 seconds , Riley went back to his meal . But Kevin noticed that he still secretly kept an eye on his table for some reason . Then Kevin just decided to ignore the guy entirely .

 

The soup was still acting weirdly crazy and he decided to ditch it and just move on with his hotdog . Later , the recess bell rang and the students start to clear out from the canteen . Kevin threw away the wraps in the garbage can , put his tray in the proper place and continued to head for his class . As he was exiting the canteen , he crossed paths with Riley . The two pretended not to notice each other and just continued their way . Later , he met up with the other two .

 

“ Hey you guys , I just experienced the weirdest shit ever just now . My soup that I was planning to eat , started boiling itself . It’s like , heating up like crazy all of a sudden .” he eagerly said , wanting to let them know what he just saw at the canteen .

 

“What the hell are you talking about dude ? Are you sure you’re not imagining things or something ?” Zack said , not exactly believing what Kevin said .

 

“I’m pretty sure I’m not . But seriously , I’m not lying !” he continued .

 

“Maybe it’s just your attractive visuals that the soup couldn’t handle and it got turned on and boiled up, HAHA !” Zack stated jokingly .

 

“ Errr , that’s a poor one Zack . And it’s kinda awkward for a guy to be saying that to another guy .” Kevin replied with a weirded out expression directed to his friend .

 

“ Oh , yeah …. Omg did I really say that oh my . Ha ! Forget I said that , blablabla it was never said blabla .” Zack embarassingly said . That made the other two giggle .

 

SCHOOL ENDS FOR THE DAY

 

The streets in front of the school were crowded as parents and buses wait to pick up their passengers . The trio walked together to the gate and then part ways . Zack walked home with his girlfriend while Michael rode a car that his brother’s driving . Kevin boarded his bus alongside his brother . They sat together on the left row of seats of the bus . After everyone is boarded , the bus started the normal run through houses and houses . John was clearly exhausted and he closed his eyes to rest with his arms crossed . Kevin decided to do the same , and he stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jeans . But before he could properly close his eyes , he felt something in his right pocket . It was a folded piece of paper . He was completely clueless how that got in there . He pulled it out and saw some writings on it . He made sure no one was looking and unfolded it and read the contents . He especially made sure his brother didn’t open his eyes . The paper read :

 

“ I wanna see you for a while . Meet me at the back of the school tomorrow during recess . I’ll be at the most secluded part of the place . Come alone , don’t bring anyone . Don’t be alarmed , I just wanna talk about some things .”

Kevin , without a doubt , was surprised to see the contents of the letter , especially the sender who is Riley . Kevin tried to figure out how that got in his pocket , then he remembered . It was at the canteen , when they crossed each other’s paths . That explains why he felt something at the right side of his jeans . Then a more important question came up to his mind , why does Riley want to see him ? What is that thing he wants to talk about ? Both feelings of suspense and curiousness consumed him .
