Learning Theories

1. Is there any learning theory that you apply in your personal and academic life?

- I want to apply behaviourism to myself so as to motivate me more to study and do my assignments but it never seems to work on me. Constructivism works best for me in my case but I believe that behaviourism is still the best way to get things done because I don't always have people around me and the tasks I need to finish aren't really compatible with constructivist approaches.

2. As a future educator, how do you plan to put into practice the learning theories you have learned?

- I plan to apply the constructivist approach in the classroom settings using activities that would allow them to socialize with other students and share their own ideas. I also want it to be more of a cognitivist classroom than a behaviourist one as I believe that a genuine passion for learning something still makes a better foundation than learning just because of external factors such as rewards and punishment. Although, yes, I also think that it can not be done without even a little behaviourist techniques.

3. Could you formulate your own learning theory based on your experiences and learning? If so, what it is? Explain.

- My own theory would be called trial-and-error theory. People learn best from their mistakes because we have this tendency to dwell on it. It may sound like a joke at first but it's true to a point.

If we were just fed with information, we would soon forget this but once we are asked to apply the knowledge and we make inevitable mistakes, these pieces of information would still haunt us at the back of our minds even after years.
