Day 8 - angst love sliceoflife school tragedy - chapter image

A A A A

Willy stayed back once school finished since he got basketball practice. He constantly noted that Alana had stayed back too to finish her homework like how she had did days before. Along with Ryan, Josh, Zach, Kai and the other, Willy played. He like usual, swiftly dodged the ball out of his opponent's attack. Not because he's tall, but he had been playing this for quite a long time and he's good at it. Like what people said, 'practice makes perfect'.

However, Willy is nothing to be compared to his older brother, Billy, he's the king of basketball. Billy is the opposite of him, he's excellent in studies, hardworking, friendly and all that Willy's not. It didn't took them that long time to practice. Around 4, he had changed back in to his uniform and grabbed his stuffs leaving the other members of him behind.

Willy waited by the gate. After he kept his stuffs into the car, he waited outside, leaning against his car. He watched one by one his friends went off. "See you tomorrow, dude." Zach said as he was the last one to stepped out from the school. He waited and waited but Alana didn't show up.

He glanced at his wrist, it's already 5:30 in the evening. Had she went home? He thought.

Willy was about to dial a number but then he remember that she didn't have phone. He abruptly stopped his doing. Willy thought of the last idea on his mind, he needed to search for her. He walked back into the school building. Willy heard each switch was being off as the school's security guard switched the lights on. The security guard saw him walking towards his direction, then he remembered something.

"Hey, you." he called. Willy stopped his on his step. "Me?" He pointed at himself with his forefinger. The latter nodded, "Yes. Are you looking for a girl, with brown chest length hair?"

Willy noted that he's talking about her, Alana. "Yes, I am sir." Willy turned around. "She had went home. She told me to tell you since she can't find you." The security guard explained.

Willy literally nodded. He thought that she'll ignored him forever, but that's proved him wrong. Willy returned back to his car as he drove home. Now, he thought of two place that she stated as 'home'. One, the house she lives with her grandma, and two, his house.

This time, Willy resorted by drove straight to his own house. He saw Ian's car parked in the garage indicated that he;s home. When he was just stepping his feet in to the house, all he could see was Alana munching on his cereal, honey stars that he usually ate in the morning. A smile threatened to form on his lips as he closed the door behind him.

Alana heard his car and prepared herself. At the end of her eyes, she could tell that he was looking at her. So she pretended like she only watched the tv instead of minding him. Carelessly, Alana stucked the spoon with cereal in it into her mouth.

She had been eating non-stop since she had gotten home. How weird, she thought.

When it was time to go to sleep, Alana saw Willy was already sleeping on the bed. She didn't have the heart to wake him up since he looked very exhausted. She could tell just by looking at him sleeping with his lips parted a little. Alana took a long caterpillar plushie which she didn't have any idea why did he bought and putted it in between them.

Only then she laid down to sleep. In not more than a minute, Alana had been drifted to dreamland.

She was walking in a dark alley when she saw Willy running after her. Alana don't have a clue why did she refused to turn around although she heard him calling after her continuously.

Alana just kept on strolling ahead towards a long dark alley. Somehow, she felt like she's going in a danger. She heard Willy's voice echoing between the narrow alley.

A guy with dark hoodie and skinny was all she could see at the end of the alley. And she could see it clearly, he's smirking at her direction. Nevertheless, Alana can't stopped herself from walking. She could tell that there's someone he's hiding behind him, that dark man.

She heard it well, too well that it's the dark guy's evil laugh. She was trapped in his embraced as he let her see the thing that he's hiding behind him. And all she could see was the blood splattered from then. She can't tell who it was he's killing. But Alana started to tremble badly.

She snapped her eyes wide. That was close enough, she contemplated. Alana sat up abruptly as Willy did so. Willy worriedly peeked at her face.

There were cold sweats trickled at her sideburn. She was breathing rather in a coarse breath. "Alana, are you okay?" Willy fretfully asked her.

Alana saw him, and her eyes stared him straight into his eyes. "W-Willy..." she croaked. Willy was taken aback slightly. That was the first time he had heard her saying his name so clear and yet so closer. He patted her back lightly, "Nightmare?"

She nodded without thinking. She started to feel like there's something else in the room. Like someone else presence in the darkness. Willy stroked her hair away from her face. Alana sighed a shaggy breath.

"Come on, let's get back to sleep," he tugged on her arms lightly. Willy tapped on her pillow lightly as he helped her laid down.

Willy then laid back at his side as he faced her side. "It's okay. You can sleep, I'll be awake till you sleep." He said.

Alana turned at his side completely. She didn't want to face the empty dark spaces behind her where she felt harmful.

Yet, her eyes didn't seemed to close down. Maybe it was due to her stomach that felt a little too tight or the atmosphere that felt a little too cold. She can't think straight. The nightmare ealier still lingered on her minds.

Willy scooted closer to her which Alana widened in alarmed. "What are you trying to do?" She asked beware of what he was doing.

He blinked, "Relax, I won't do something improper." Alana relaxed as she breathed a sighed of relief. She can't bear it, so she turned away to another side as she stared in the darkness of the room. The streetlamp was broken earlier that morning. So it's not a surprise when the room was so dark.

Alana stiffened when she felt Willy crept his big palm on her back as he patted her back soothingly. In time like this, she didn't dodge out from him to pamper her. She felt at eased. Her breathing ceased back to normal.

Willy silently did it untill he heard her even breathing as she slumber off again. He fixed the cover around her waist so she won't catch a cold or feels hot. He wondered what did she dreamt of that made her so scared. Her hair moved as she stirred in her sleep. Just like that, Willy fall asleep by watching her.

* * * * *

After a few days, Alana had just got home after visited her grandma. She had been given by Willy an iPhone to make life easier. He needed to know where she is and what happened to her. It's the communication that they need.

Alana had learnt how to use that sophisticated gadgets. She sometimes would made a mistake by tapping the red button when someone called her. No one knows about that not even Kyle. She didn't think that it's something that she should tell, because the implication was later on she'll get. With thousands of how, why, what and when did she got the phone. Mostly, they will make a fuss about it.

Alana spread her unfinish homework on the table in the living room as she sat on a red furry big mat. Willy was still doing his homework too. He's wearing a white tee like he usually did because  white is his favourite. While Ian, no one knows where he was. The two sat quietly as they scribbled this and that on their book.

Alana heard a phone ringing. She didn't budge a bit. Willy too, he didn't budge. When the phone rang for the second time, Alana looked at him. "Aren't you going to pick up your phone?"

Willy lifted his head and looked at her, "It's not mine."

Alana blinked and jumped on her feet abruptly. She saw the unknown number on the screen. Alana swiped on the screen as she carefully answered, "Hello..."

There was a sound of busy and hectic voice at the end of the line, "Hello, is this Alana Cooper?"

Alana waited for a second and replied a 'yes'. "This is Greenroad Hospital, I believed that you're Mrs Charmaine's granddaughter right?"

"Yes, I am. Is there something wrong?" she started panicked, her intuition told her that something was definitely wrong.

"Can you come over, because she had been hit and run by a drunk man and-" Alana didn't waited for her to finish off as she turned around and took a jacket. Willy who saw her running out from the bedroom quickly took his jacket and wallet.

Alana can't think straight. Her mind was fibrous. She needs to get there as soon as possible and running in the rain is not a good choice. "Alana, what's wrong?" Willy slipped his jacket on.

She looked at him, "Willy, please, help me. I need to go to the hospital. ASAP." She's going insane. If something happened to her grandma, she's done. She'll really have nothing left then.

Willy didn't waste anymore time as he started his car and zoomed as fast as he could. Alana bit her bottom lips a little too hard that it almost bleed. She quietly crossed her fingers to her heart wishing that nothing bad happened. Once they arrived, Alana immediately got off from the black car and ran as fast as she could in to the emergency room. Not even caring about the fetus in her stomach anymore.

Strangely, too many people therein. Her eyes sharply searched for that one person she have left. Her only family.

"Are you Alana Cooper?" A woman in her early 30 approached her. Alana nodded abruptly. "Your grandma is over there. She's moribund."

Alana heart dropped heavily as she skipped off to the room which the woman had informed her earlier. There she was, the old lady was full with blood. Her face was barely could be seen. Alana started began to cry as she approached the bed. "Grandma..." She croaked.

Nothing would be more important at that time. She couldn't bare losing her only family and her caretaker which is like a mother to her. Not her. "A-A-Alana. Honey, y-you're... here" the old lady tried to breath properly.

But it only made Alana cried even more. "NO. Don't talk please, you're making yourself harder to breath," She said while crying.

Willy came a few seconds later, "Willy..." despite what Alana had said, the old lady still talked.

Alana shook her head as she cried. Willy was speechless and din't know what to say when he saw the old lady laying on the bed with blood on her body. He came closer as he took the old lady hand. "Grandma."

Alana's grandma tried to smile but failed miserably as she winced that the scrape had hurt her badly. "W-Willy, please take care of her when I was gone-"

"NO!" Alana snapped. She instantly wailed. "No, don't say that. You're the only family that I have left, grandma. I love you. Please don't leave me."

Her grandma put her palm on hers. Alana could feel how warmth wass her hand. "A-Alana h-honey. I-I can't. It's about time f-for me to g-go."

"No..." Alana sobbed as she shook her head. "I'm sorry that I can't take care of you till you graduate, I-I'm so sorry honey."

Alana kept on crying as she shook her head, "No, you're too good to me, grandma."

"Willy, can you p-promise m-me? To stay b-by her side even w-when she pushed you a-away?"

Willy nodded as he squeezed the old lady's warm hand. "I promised you I'll be with her till my last breath." Alana shifted her glassed gazed.

"Thank you Willy. AlanaI'll be watching the both of you from the above. I will always love you, honey..." And with that the monitor started beeping with high pitched. The old lady's grasped loosen as she stopped breathing. Alana could felt that everything had stopped at that moment. Not even her breathing. Her oxygen seemed to suffocate herself.

"No," she whispered. "No, you can't leave me! Grandma!" she wailed as she shook the lifeless body vigorously. Willy held her shoulders ad he pulled her hands away from the lifeless body. Although, the body had no soul anymore, but still it can feel the hurting.

"Alana..." he wrapped his arms around her as she cried. Alana wailed like a small kid losing her favourite toy. She didn't even care all the stare she got from people around them. Willy soothed her so she won't disturbed the other people.

Grandma... She cried miserably.
