remarks ;

Macarthur is the sixth published book of Bob Ong. Compared to his previous works, this book was really dark and shows the reality of the slums area. The words used by Ong in this book is informal Filipino slang which I believe makes it easier to understand and relate to. I think that Ong wrote Macarthur in this way to show his growth as a writer, veering away from his comfort zone. Unlike his first works that can be suggested to middle grades and up, Macarthur would most likely be appreciated more by high school kids as its graphic contents would not be appropriate for younger children. I have grown up reading Bob Ong books since I was in elementary, and I could say that this book still emanates Ong's personal and upclose style of writing but in a more mature light. Compared to the other Filipino authors that write realistic fiction, I believe this book is more 'in your face' and down right gritty.
