This Is Not My Hat follows the story of a tiny fish who is wearing a blue hat owned by a bigger fish. This book is written as a follow up to Klassen's I Want My Hat Back, following the theme of "What happens when you steal someone else's hat" (you get eaten, that's what). What I find amusing about this book is that it didn't have any words by the end of the story, just pictures; which is enough to show you what happened to the little fish. I think this children's book is actually appreciated by adults more due to it's humor but I think children would also like it. However people are still debating whether or not implying or showing a chracter kill another without repercussions, is a theme that you would like to see in a children's book. As an aspiring children's book writer/illustrator, this book showed me that a punch line can usually only be thrown effectively once. Compared to the first book, this one was okay but not as funny anymore as getting eaten because of theft as a punch line apparently gets old easily. If you haven't read the first book though, this one reads fine.
