Tight times is the story of a family who stays happy despite the times being harsh. The book was written to teach the value of saving. The author wants to convey that even if we are lacking financially, we can still be happy. What is noteworthy about this book is that it deals with poverty or financial hardship without overdoing it and focusing on the bright side. It is recommended for students from grades four to six but it is a nice read even for older kids to promote financial literacy.  The illustration of Sergio Bumatay III also mirrors how the plot of the story goes from very bleak black and white to a brighter and more colorful ending.  It inspired me to draw and paint more because I really liked Bumatay's detailed style of illustration. Compared to other books of Adarna House in this age range, Tight Times has a more somber tone as it deals with realities such as financial hardships.
