Chapter 12

 

 

 

 

 

Today in oh-so-lovely biology, we were going to dissect frogs. Dissect frogs. Freaking flipping frogs. 

I grabbed three frogs from the tray, one for me, one for Ren, the other...well...I waited until the right moment, then I chucked the slimy creature at Charlotte.

She shrieked and grabbed at her hair, getting all over Kyle. It was hilarious and at least it relieved me from my ugly mood for a while.

Seriously. Dissecting frogs? The old man - teacher, mind me - went over the procedures of cutting the frog open and we were told to start "taking apart" and "stabbing" our frogs. 

I wrinkled my nose in disgust and froze. I was starting to become human again. My vamp senses and habits were no longer there. I whipped my head around and looked at  the window. 

...I couldn't see the dust particles that were always on the window. Looking around the classroom, I began to panic. 

I couldn't sense the fear rolling off of people from looking at the frogs.

I couldn't hear what Charlotte was whispering to her friends right now.

I couldn't see the clear detail of Ren's skin, even from standing next to him.

Most importantly, I was disgusted by the frog. It was dead.

If anything, if I was still a vampire, I wouldn't have minded. In fact back then, I killed more than ten people a day from feeding. My coven, we killed more than fifty a day and especially with Ryan, we killed hundreds. Even then, I didn't feel anything. So why was I feeling something with a freaking frog right now?

I watched as Ren cut open the poor frog's stomach and covered my mouth. I raised my hand. "Um...I need to go to the restroom." I told the teacher. 

Not even waiting for a reply, I ran out the door, not forgetting to kick Charlotte on the way out.

I'm human again...
