I remember it all clearly, as if it was just yesterday. That was the last thing Ryan said to me. It would be the last time he ever told me that he loved me, the last time I would be able to hug him. Probably the last time that I'd be able to see him, too. 

But, it was the first time in 1072 years that I could lay in the sun. Eat. Walk around without sunglasses to cover my eyes or color contacts to hide my red eyes. Ryan sacrificed himself so that I could have a chance at being human again. So the bloodlust would stop.

Falling for someone else who wasn't Ryan was something I never expected. The thought just never occured to me. But Kyle was different. I don't know how to describe it. And falling in love with him was never part of the plan.
